Real Madrid return to the scene of crime – Alcoyano in the Copa del Rey last 32

(Football news) The Copa Del Rey round of 32 draw is out. This is the first ball which will feature the big boys. The competition will have single legged games until the semifinals with the games to be hosted by the lower division team. The round of 32 will kick off on the 4th of January.

Real Madrid have drawn against 3rd division side CD Alcoyano. On paper it looks like a normal cup which Madrid should easily get through but there is a bit of recent history to this fixture. Alcoyano famously eliminated Real Madrid from the last 32 of last season's Copa Del Rey. Alcoyano were eliminated in the very next round by Athletic Club. The defeat truly hurt Real Madrid as they ended the season without a trophy.

Los Blancos will return to the Alcoy to get their revenge. The situation would be different then last season as Real Madrid are arguably the most in-form team in Europe. There will be a very big concern for Real Madrid fans would have in the Copa Del Rey. It is pretty clear that Carlo Ancelotti doesn't believe in rotations but he will have to use players who haven't played a lot this season in that game which could backfire. If the players are thrown in directly into that game it will be a problem.

Playing against a lower league team away from home is not as easy as it looks. Playing in a small stadium isn't something Real Madrid players would be used to and that is what happened last year as Real Madrid played some of the worst football that day. After somehow managing to take the lead before halftime, they conceded in the 2nd half and in extra time as their campaign ended in their first round. Ancelotti will be hoping that they can get through the first round without any complications and maybe even without playing his big boys.

Barcelona on the other hand have drawn Linares Deportivo which is a very important fixture for them as they Copa Del Rey is the only trophy they could win in this difficult season. Atlético Madrid have drawn Rayo Majadahonda.
