Real Madrid defeat Liverpool in the first leg of Champions League quarter finals clash

Two of the most successful clubs in Europe went head to head in a clash where Zinedine Zidane’s men were rewarded with a sizable advantage after winning the first leg of the Champions League quarter finals. Twenty year old Vinicius Jr. scored a brace in the 27th and 65th minute in a fixture that also saw goals by Marco Asensio and Mohamed Salah.

The former Flamengo player Vinicius Jr. scored the first goal of the match after controlling a sublime ball from Germany International Toni Kroos, becoming the second youngest player to score a Champions League knockout goal since Raul in 1996. A critical error by Trent Alexander-Arnold led to Liverpool conceding their second goal of the night as Asensio took advantage of the opportunity.

Despite a goal by Mohamed Salah at the start of the second half, Liverpool never looked like overturning the deficit which returned to it’s two goal cushion for Real Madrid when Vinicius Jr. scored a classic poacher’s goal to wrap up the night.

The Premier League champions now face an uphill task in the second leg at Anfield on April 14th and Real Madrid would be wise to not get complacent, especially considering Liverpool’s famous comeback against Real Madrid’s arch rivals Barcelona happened not too long ago.
