Real Madrid comfortably beat Inter Milan to finish top; Atletico Madrid edge Porto against all the odds to qualify for the knockouts

(Football news) The first set of UCL matchday 6 games have concluded. 12 teams have now booked their place in the Round of 16 and the remaining 4 will be finalized after today's set of matches. The draw will take place 13 December with the 2 legged games set to be played in late February and early March next year.

PSG recovered well after their draw against Lens as they won 4-1 against Club Brugge. Kylian Mbappe scored twice in the first 7 minutes. He then set up Lionel Messi who scored an absolute rocket from outside the box. Brugge pulled one goal back through Mats Rits in the 68th minute. Messi won and scored a penalty later to put the victory beyond any doubt. The 34 year old also overtook Pele to become the 2nd highest scorer in the history of football. PSG finished 2nd on the table and will be unseeded in the round of 16 draw. Brugge finished rock bottom and failed to secure a Europa League finish.

RB Leipzig shocked Manchester City with a 2-1 win. Leipzig needed a win to secure Europa League qualification without depending on Club Brugge's result and that is exactly what they did. Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring in the 24th minute before Andre Silva doubled their lead later in the 2nd half. Riyad Mahrez got a goal in the 76th minute, that was only a consolation in the end. Leipzig finished the group stage on a high with a victory over Manchester City. They will now play in the Europa League Round of 16. City still finished top of their group and will play any of the 2nd placed teams.

Atletico Madrid scraped through with a 3-1 win away at Porto. The Rojiblancos needed to win their game and also needed AC Milan to lose against and it happened. After a tight and goalless 1st half, Antoine Griezmann broke the deadlock in the 56th minute. The game broke into a brawl after Yannick Carrasco got sent off which ended in Wendell getting sent off as well while 3 other players were booked. Angel Correa and Rodrigo De Paul sealed the victory after the clock hit 90 minutes. Sergio Oliviera's penalty in the dying minutes of the game didn't matter. Atletico Madrid were done a favor by Liverpool who came back from 1-0 down to win the game 2-1. Porto still secured a Europa League spot.

Liverpool, who had already secured their place in the UCL knockouts, defeated AC Milan by 2-1 despite resting the majority of their players and ended the group stage with a 100% record. Former Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori opened the scoring to give Milan an invaluable lead. It took only 7 minutes for Mohamed Salah to equalize. Divock Origi scored the winner in the 2nd half as Milan failed to breach the Liverpool defense. Their much awaited return to the Champions League ended in the group stage where they almost pulled off a great escape.

Real Madrid defeated Inter Milan by 2 goals to nil to secure the top spot. Long range screamers from Toni Kroos and Marco Asensio in each half was enough to secure the victory for Real Madrid. Inter dominated the first half and Kroos' goal came against the run of play. Inter came close to equalizing on a few occasions but didn't test Thibaut Courtois enough. Their chances of winning significantly took a hit when Nicola Barella punched Eder Militao's leg in the 64th minute and got himself sent off. Los Blancos will be seeded in the Round of 16 draw while Inter will be unseeded.
