Real Madrid and Barcelona win 4-1 while Atletico lose feisty contest

(Football news) Real Madrid kept their place at the top of the table with a 4-1 win away at Celta Vigo. Los Blancos were awarded a penalty in the 14th minute after Renato Tapia handled the ball. The spot kick was converted by Karim Benzema for his first goal of the season. Madrid's lead didn't last long as Eder Militao's handball gave Iago Aspas a chance to equalise from the spot which the Spaniard took. The game was pretty even until the 41st minute when Luka Modric showed some individual brilliance to equalise with a sumptuous long shot. In the 2nd half the 37 year old assisted Vinicius Jr who made it 3-1 after rounding the keeper. Fede Valverde was set up by Vinicius as Real Madrid took a 4-1 lead. Benzema won a penalty in the 87th minute and gave it to Eden Hazard but unfortunately for him the Belgian missed it.

It was a good performance by Real Madrid as they continued their title defence. It was Real Madrid's first match since Casemiro's departure and his heir Aurélien Tchouaméni stepped up to the task. The Frenchman had a really good game in midfield as he dominated duals and recovered the ball several times. Luka Modric showed no signs of slowing down as he put in a brilliant performance as usual. Youngsters Eduardo Camavinga, Fede Valverde and Vinicius Jr also had good outings.

Atletico Madrid were beaten 2-0 by Villarreal at Wanda Metropolitano. The away side started the game really well, drawing a couple of good saves from Jan Oblak and hitting the crossbar. Yeremi Pino finally broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute after a mix-up by Atleti. 5 minutes later Geronimo Rulli made a world class save to deny Yannick Carrasco and keep the score 1-0. Nahuel Molina was sent off in the dying minutes before Gerard Moreno scored to make it 2-0. Diego Simeone will be extremely disappointed with his side's performance. Atletico's next fixture will be a very difficult away game against Valencia.

Barcelona won 4-1 away at Real Sociedad to get their first win of the season. Robert Lewandowski scored inside 45 seconds to open his Barcelona account. The equaliser arrived just 5 minutes later via Alexander Isak. The rest of the first half was pretty frantic as David Silva came very close to giving La Real the lead in the 44th minute but his shot was saved by Marc Andre Ter Stegen. Xavi brought on Ansu Fati to try and break the deadlock and the youngster responded. He assisted Ousmane Dembele and Robert Lewandowski in the space of 4 minutes before scoring himself. The game wasn't as one sided as the scoreline suggests but Ansu Fati's performance after a string of injury issues will be a very big positive for Barcelona.
