Real Madrid and Barcelona qualify for CDR Round of 16 with narrow wins

(Cricket news) Real Madrid and Barcelona have both gone past the first hurdle in the 2021/22 Copa del Rey. Barcelona were put through the grinder by Linares Deportivo. Hugo Diaz gave the home side a lead with a header in the 19th minute to put the Blaugrana on the back foot straight away. Barcelona kept a lot of possession and created a few chances but couldn't get the equaliser. Xavi made a triple change at halftime bringing on Frenkie De Jong, Gerard Pique and Ousmane Dembélé.

The substitutes had an impact on the game as the Catalan side looked more composed with the ball. Dembele got the equaliser with a low curling shot from the edge of the box in the 63 minute. Six minutes later La Masia player Ferran Jutglà gave his side the lead. Linares did have a few chances to get the equaliser, the most prominent one coming in the 75th minute when substitute Cristian Carracedo hit the post. The game ended 2-1 with Barcelona dominating 82 percent possession. The win came at cost as Frenkie De Jong and Ronald Araujo both joined the long list of injured players. Barcelona will have two more absentees for the game against Granada and potentially the El Clasico in the Spanish Super cup midweek.

Real Madrid almost relieved the nightmare at Alcoyano. Just like last season Alcoyano was putting all sorts of pressure on Real Madrid right from the first minute and the goalscorer in last year's fixture Eder Militao once again scored. The Deja Vu hit Real Madrid fans really hard when Dani Vega equalised in the 66th minute. Thankfully for Carlo Ancelotti, Marco Asensio scored a deflected goal 10 minutes later to give Real Madrid the lead. In the 78th minute Alcoyano conceded an own goal after some pinball in their box. Real Madrid won 3-1 but it was by no means an easy victory. Ancelotti will definitely look at it as a job done as they gear up for a very important game against Valencia on the weekend before traveling to Saudi Arabia for the Spanish Super cup.
