Real Madrid and Barcelona play at home; Atletico Madrid travel away

(Football news) The La Liga 2021/22 season is officially coming to an end. Real Madrid are champions of Spain for the 35th time in history. Barcelona finished 2nd, securing their place in the Champions League and the Spanish Super Cup. Atletico Madrid and Sevilla are the other two teams that have qualified for the UCL. Real Betis and Real Sociedad have secured direct qualification to the Europa League while Villarreal who played the UCL semi final this season will be playing the Europa Conference League next season.

Real Madrid will take on Real Betis in a game that was rescheduled by the La Liga to give the Los Blancos more time to prepare for the UCL final. The rescheduling was possible only because the position of Madrid and Betis is fixed. The game is extremely important for Real Madrid even though it doesn't have any reward attached to it as the Los Blancos will definitely be looking to set the tone before the final. Carlo Ancelotti is likely to field his strongest XI for the game and if that team isn't able to get a comfortable win then it might be a massive confidence destroyer. Marcelo is back from injury while David Alaba is still missing and Gareth Bale is a doubt. The game could be the last one for Isco, Marcelo and Bale who are out of contract in the summer. Real Betis on the other hand will be without Claudio Bravo, Victor Camarasa and Martin Montoya. Betis would like to end what has been a very successful season on a good note by defeating the champions in their own backyard.

After a goalless draw against Getafe, Barcelona will host Villarreal at the Nou Camp. It has been a long and difficult season for Barcelona in many ways. The atmosphere at the Camp Nou hasn't been the best with boycotts and other problems. Amidst all this, Xavi would be determined to end the season with some positivity. Gerard Pique, Sergi Roberto, Pedri, Sergino Dest and Nico Gonzalez are still out with injuries while Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia are new additions to the treatment room. The good news for Barcelona is that Frenkie De Jong and Jordi Alba are back from suspension. As for Villarreal, Alberto Moreno and Gerard Moreno are still unavailable while Jaun Foyth is suspended. Despite only being able to secure a Conference League position, Villarreal have had a good season in general. They knocked Juventus and Bayern Munich out of the UCL and a win against Barcelona at the Camp Nou would be the icing on the cake.

After a terrible first half of the season, Atletico Madrid have recovered well. They now sit comfortably in 3rd place, having already secured UCL qualification. They will travel away to play Real Sociedad in the final matchday of La Liga. It will be Luis Suarez's last match as an Atletico Madrid player as his departure was announced a week ago. Joao Felix could return to the bench while Sime Vrsaljko, Thomas Lemar and Renan Lodi are ruled out. La Real who have already secured UEL qualification will be looking to give their fans more joy in their home stadium. Nacho Monreal, Mikel Oyarzabal, Carlos Fernandes, Ander Barrenetxea will be Unai for the game.
