(Football news) Manchester United’s season is consistently getting from bad to worse as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were comprehensively defeated by Leicester City 4-2 at the King Power Stadium to end their record of 29 games without a defeat away from home in the Premier League. The pressure is mounting for the Norwegian as his team are now winless in their last three league games with disjointed performances becoming a theme for the season.
Mason Greenwood opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a stunning strike but Youri Tielemans equalized with a looping effort 12 minutes later, taking full advantage of some shoddy defending. Caglar Soyuncu put Leicester ahead in the 78th minute in the 78th minute but Manchester United pulled one back through Marcus Rashford but Jamie Vardy restored the lead just one minute later. To add to Solskjaer’s woes, Patson Daka scored Leicester’s fourth goal in a thoroughly deserved three points for Brendan Rogers’ side.
Liverpool ran riot at Vicarage Road as Claudio Ranieri’s return to the Premier League ended in the worst possible way for The Hornets. Sadio Mane opened the scoring just eight minutes after kick off, scoring his 100th Premier League goal in the process. Roberto Firmino scored the first of his three goals in the 37th minute while Mohamed Salah continued his excellent form with another brilliant individual goal. Firmino scored his second goal in the 52nd minute before getting a hat-trick in injury time. With this result, Jurgen Klopp’s team are second in the league table, one point behind Chelsea and are 18 games unbeaten in all competitions.
Premier League champions Manchester City got all three points against Burnley despite not winning 5-0 like each of their last four encounters at the Etihad Stadium. Bernardo Silva opened the scoring in the 12th minute from a close range rebound finish but Pep Guardiola’s men could not find further openings for a big chunk of the match until Kevin De Bruyne scored his third goal of the season in the 70th minute to get all three points. City are third in the Premier League table, one point behind Liverpool and and two points behind league leaders Chelsea.
Chelsea returned on top of the Premier League table with a narrow 1-0 victory over Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium on Saturday. Ben Chilwell scored his third goal in three matches for both club and country with a fantastic half volley to seal all three points for the Blues. Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo hit the post in both halves. The win would not have been possible without Edouard Mendy’s heroics, who made saves from substitute Saman Ghoddos, Pontus Jansson and Christian Norgaard to ensure Chelsea won their sixth game of the season.
