Paolo Maldini calls Rafael Leao untouchable amid Real Madrid interest

(Football news) AC Milan's technical director Paolo Maldini in a statement said that forward Rafael Leao is untouchable and not for sale. The Portuguese has a release clause of €150 million and Milan have no intentions of selling him despite interest from PSG and Real Madrid. Leao was quoted saying “The rumors about Real Madrid's interest make me happy, but I am keeping my feet firmly on the ground.” It will be difficult for Real Madrid to pull the deal off considering Milan's stance but if there’s one team in the world who can make the impossible happen, it’s the Los Blancos.

The failure to land Kylian Mbappe has linked Real Madrid to every single forward in the world. Leao's release is definitely something Madrid will not spend but Milan may be willing to negotiate despite Maldini's statements. Leao is a complete forward who can play anywhere in the front three. His natural athleticism and technical ability are as good as anyone in the world right now. The only problem from Real Madrid's point of view is that his preferred playing position is left wing just like Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo and Eden Hazard. Los Blancos will preferably like someone who is a natural right winger rather than someone who's ability will be lessened on the right.

Leao currently has two years left on his contract with Milan therefore he won't come cheap. If the player demanded a transfer to play for Real Madrid then Milan isn't one of those clubs who will force him to stay. Real Madrid will still be evaluating other options but Leao is someone who has a lot of potential. At the age of just 22 he has established himself as one of the best forwards in the Serie A. Real Madrid have really gone all in on their youth project with signings of Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy, Eduardo Camavinga, Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr. Leao ticks all the boxes perfectly and moving to Madrid will take his career to the next level.
