Owen Wijndal and Brian Brobbey are going to join Ajax

(Football news) Owen Wijndal is set to continue his career in Dutch league at Ajax. Although there is no full agreement with AZ Alkmaar regarding the fee yet, it is expected that the left back will soon be presented in the capital. Wijndal has a release clause of £10 million after his contract extension with AZ earlier this year. Technical director of Ajax Gerry Hamstra informed AZ director Max Huiberts last week that they wanted to complete the transfer quickly as West Ham look to hijack the deal. Various sources claim that as of now there is no deal but the willingness of Wijndal to join Ajax might accelerate the deal..

The team from Amsterdam has been targeting the attacking left back for years. Former Ajax coach Erik ten Hag made it no secret that he would like to welcome Wijndal to the Johan Cruyff Arena and new manager Alfred Schreuder has already made contact with the Dutch international. Moreover, it is known that Owen Wijndal has already had conversations with Ajax players and would love to make the switch to the capital. Louis Van Gaal also approves the move since it would be a step up in his career and would also help him secure a place in the World Cup squad this year.

Ajax have agreed a five-year contract with the player as personal terms don’t seem like a problem, it is just the matter of the fee which needs to be sorted out. Ajax are also very interested in Steven Bergwijn as they look for a replacement for the departing Antony for the new season. With the upcoming arrival of Wijndal, the champions are preparing for a departure of Nicolás Tagliafico this summer transfer window. The Argentinian has had a wish to leave Ajax for quite some time now and expects it to 'finally' be fulfilled this summer. With Wijndal as an option on the left, they can deploy the multi-purpose Daley Blind at left centre back. The veteran can also slot into midfield and act as a cover if Jurriën Timber or Lisandro Martínez leave the club.

On the other hand Ajax have agreed personal terms with the 20 year old Brian Brobbey, giving him a contract until the summer of 2027. Although there is still a gaping gap between the offer from Ajax which was £15 million and the asking price of RB Leipzig of £25 million. The Amsterdam club is not prepared to comply with the wishes of the Germans; they seek to find a midpoint for the player's valuation. It seems logical also because Brobbey was training at De Toekomst before he left for the Bundesliga club a year ago for free. If Leipzig is prepared to significantly lower their asking price, only then we’ll see the move materialise. It is clear that Brobbey does not want to return to Leipzig under any circumstances and is interested in coming back to Amsterdam. In the past six months, he played on loan for Ajax and really impressed the club hierarchy, ultimately helping them achieve their 36th Eredivisie title.
