Neal Maupay scores dramatic equaliser to rescue a point for Brighton

(Football news) Crystal Palace and Brighton played out a dramatic draw at Selhurst Park. Palace looked to have secured all three points before Neal Maupay scored an equaliser in the dying minutes of the game.

Palace manager Patrick Vieira handed in-form new signing Odsonne Edouard his first Premier League start. As expected, Palace took advantage of the home surroundings at the start. Brighton were very conservative and defensive in the first half. The Seagulls didn't commit too many players forward in order to defend deep.

Palace played with intent, keeping possession and patiently playing the ball around. Despite all that Palace didn't create enough clear cut chances until injury time of the first half when Leandro Trossard brought down Conor Gallagher inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Wilfried Zaha stepped up and scored his 2nd goal of the season.

Brighton came out in the 2nd half more aggressively. Graham Potter made an attacking change by bringing on Steven Alzate for Dan Burn but it was Palace who kept creating the better chances. The 2nd half possession was in the balance but it was Vieira side with the majority of the clear cut chances. It looked like Palace had secured the victory but Robert Sanchez's poor goal kick in the 95th minute was intercepted by Joel Veltman who played a long ball over the entire Palace defence for Neal Maupay who pounced on it and dinked it over the keeper to make it 1-1.

The draw keeps Brighton joint 2nd on the table along with 4 other teams. Crystal Palace on the other hand are 15th on the table. Palace face Leicester City at home next week while Brighton host Arsenal.
