Mauro Icardi is set to join Turkish side Galatasaray on loan

(Football news) PSG striker Mauro Icardi is close to agreeing a season-long loan deal with Turkish giants Galatasaray, according to Fabrizio Romano who wrote on Twitter: “Mauro Icardi, prepared to complete his move to Galatasaray. Loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain set to be done, as just final details are being discussed. He's expected in Turkey to undergo medical tests."

Icardi joined PSG from Inter Milan in the summer of 2020 after initially arriving on a loan deal, but has failed to live up to his goal scoring expectations in France. With Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar scoring for fun at the moment which has meant that Icardi has fallen down the pecking order at PSG. Mauro Icardi went on to score 124 goals for Inter from 2013 to 2019. If he had stayed at Inter and continued at that pace, he would have scored 188 goals for Inter by now which would have been 21 away from Inter's 2nd all-time leading scorer Alessandro Altobelli.

During the 2021-22 season, the Argentine just scored five times in 30 matches across all competitions. Overall for PSG he has registered 38 goals and 10 assists during his three-year stint at Paris. He has gone on to lift seven trophies with the club, including two Ligue 1 titles. Luis Campos and co have got rid of Icardi, Julian Draxler, Georginio Wijnaldum, Leandro Paredes, Ander Herrera, Abdou Diallo, Layvin Kurzawa, Colin Dagba all in one summer as Campos and Gailter cleared out a massive chunk in wages.

Earlier this summer, PSG signed promising striker Hugo Ekitike on a season-long loan deal from Reims to be the backup for Mbappe. On the other hand, the Parisians made six permanent signings to their squad during the summer transfer window. The club signed Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz, Renato Sanches, Carlos Soler, Nuno Mendes and Nordi Mukiele for a combined sum of €147 million. PSG have always been heavy spenders in the market but ever since the appointment of Luis Campos as the football director, they have started to get bargain deals.
