Manchester United beat Crystal Palace to register 3rd pre-season victory

(Football news) Manchester United continued their incredible pre-season campaign with a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace in Melbourne. Erik ten Hag is pretty much having a perfect pre-season with good performances by seniors as well as youngsters. New signings Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen are yet to join the camp while Cristiano Ronaldo is also not a part of the pre-season because his future is still uncertain. Ten Hag still has 3 pre-season games left to sort out a few things before he goes into a tricky start to the season.

Manchester United lined up in a 4-2-3-1 with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial up front and Bruno Fernandes as a number 10. The United front line linked up very well throughout the game. Martial opened the scoring in the 18th minute after he was set up by Diogo Dalot. Donny Van de Beek came on in the 2nd half and set up Rashford for the 2nd goal while Martial assisted Sancho for United's 3rd goal. Crystal Palace did pull one back via Joel Ward but it was too little too late. 19 year old William Fish got sent off in the 84th minute as United went down to 10 men.

The Red Devils had 64 percent possession and had 7 shots on target. It was a very dominant performance by Ten Hag's men. There are a lot of positives to take from the pre-season performance but at the same time it's only pre-season. Harry Maguire was once again subject to loud boos by the Manchester United supporters. The fact that Maguire is getting booed isn't a surprise because it has happened in the past but the surprising fact is that he is getting booed by Australian fans. Despite all the negative noise Maguire put in a very solid performance. Ten Hag has also confirmed that the Englishman will continue to be the captain of the side. The centre half will have to play a lot better than he did last season because he has stiff competition in the form of Lisandro Martinez.
