(Football news) Manchester City have reached an agreement with Leeds United for Kalvin Phillips with the fee expected to be in the region of £45m to £50m. The England midfielder, who was a part of Leeds’ youth academy, will be leaving his boyhood club and will be looking to develop into a world class player under Pep Guardiola. The 26 year old is expected to be Fernandinho’s replacement after the Brazilian left City, spending nine years at the Etihad Stadium. 

The move is undoubtedly a step up for Kalvin Phillips’ career as he now has the opportunity to win trophies, compete in the Champions League and develop his game even further amongst the best in the world. The England midfielder is City’s second signing of the summer, having already secured the services of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. The club could sign their third player soon, as they are currently in talks with Brighton for Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella. 

Phillips is expected to finalise personal terms with City before undergoing a medical and sealing his move with the Premier League champions. He was also linked to Manchester United, but the boyhood Leeds fan decided not to move to their bitter rivals at Old Trafford. Phillips made his international debut for England in 2020 and was instrumental in guiding his country to the Euro 2020 final. He will leave Leeds United with 234 appearances, scoring 14 goals.
