Mallorca stun Atletico Madrid; Barcelona score last minute winner

(Football news) La Liga was full of surprises on the weekend as it was filled with twists. Barcelona and Real both got wins to keep the point gap at 12 points while Atletico Madrid slipped in the race with a loss. The situation at the title race remains the same, which is that Real Madrid need 13 of the available 21 points to win the league without depending on other results. If Barcelona drop points in any of their next 3 matches and Real Madrid win their ones then Los Blancos could seal the title at Atletico Madrid's Wanda Metropolitano which will be nothing short of historical.

Real Madrid got a regulation 2-0 win over Granada. Carlo Ancelotti deployed a completely changed XI as Dani Carvajal, Ferland Mendy, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric didn't play a single minute. Casemiro scored in the 38th minute to break the deadlock with a header which was set up by Vinicius Jr's majestic trivela cross. Rodrygo assisted Lucas Vazquez for the 2nd goal in the 2nd half. Getafe had only 31% possession and zero shots on target. The match was a perfect game for Los Blancos who were not made to work hard. Resting the players will benefit them on Tuesday against Chelsea where they will have to protect their 2 goal lead.

Atletico Madrid were stunned by relegation threatened Mallorca. Vedat Muraqi's penalty in the 68th minute was enough for the home side to secure 3 points. The win gets Mallorca out of the relegation zone and will give them immense confidence to stay up. Atleti have now slipped back to the 4th spot but have no time to recover as they play Manchester City on Wednesday. The Rojiblancos have to comeback from a 1 goal deficit to make it to the UCL semi finals.

Barcelona got a thrilling 3-2 win away against 19th placed Levante. Levante won 3 penalties in the match out of which they scored two and missed one. After a goalless first half, Levante won a penalty in the 52nd minute which was converted by Morales. Almost straight after that the home side got another penalty which Roger hit straight at Marc Andre Ter Stegan. Minutes later Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Pedri scored two goals in quick succession to give Barcelona the lead. The hosts got a 3rd penalty in the 83rd minute which was converted by Gonzalo Melero. The game looked like it would end at 2-2 but Luuk De Jong scored a header from Jordi Alba's cross as Barcelona won the game. The win meant that Blaugrana could still have an outside chance against Real Madrid if they win the rest of their games and Real Madrid lose at least 3 games.
