Liverpool win 4 out of 4 to qualify for the UCL knockouts from the ‘Group of Death’

(Football news) In the 2021/22 UCL group stage draw Liverpool were pitted in a group with Atlético Madrid, AC Milan and FC Porto. The group was immediately termed as the group of death because of the quality of all the 4 teams. Liverpool have managed to qualify for the Round of 16 with 2 games to spare after winning their first 4 games.

In the first game Liverpool defeated AC Milan 3-2 at Anfield in what was a UCL classic entertainer. The second game was a comfortable 5-1 win away at Porto. Liverpool then defeated Atlético Madrid home and away. At the Wanda Metropolitano, Liverpool took a 2 goal lead within 13 minutes but Antoine Griezmann scored twice for Atletico Madrid to end the half at 2-2. A red card to Griezmann worked in Liverpool's favour as Salah's penalty won the match for the reds.

At Anfield Liverpool once again scored twice in the first half but managed to keep a clean sheet on this occasion. They sealed their place for the knockouts with two games left to play. The Merseyside club also guaranteed a first place finish which means that they will be up against a team that finished second in their group.

After an injury plagued last season, Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool are back to their best. In the Premier League they are currently 2nd and are yet to lose a game. The return of experienced center halfs has truly boosted their game to what it was when they won the Champions League and the Premier League. Mohamed Salah is in the form of his life scoring wonder goals for fun. The Egyptian already has 15 goals and 6 assists in all competitions including a hat-trick at the Old Trafford. The big worry for Liverpool is that Salah along with Sadio Mane and Naby Keita will be unavailable for almost a month to play in The African Cup of Nations.
