Leicester City come from behind to draw 1-1 against AS Roma

(Football news) The first leg of the Europa Conference League between Leicester City and AS Roma ended in a 1-1 draw. Jose Mourinho after the game said that the clash was too good for the Europa Conference League. The tie will be decided at the Stadio Olimpico in a week's time. Before that Leicester City will play against Mourinho's former team Tottenham Hotspur while AS Roma have a crucial clash against Bologna.

Leicester City had 67.4% possession but couldn't create a lot of chances. Both the teams had 2 shots on target despite Leicester having a lot more shots off target. It took Roma just 15 minutes to take the lead at the King Power stadium. Nicola Zalewski set up Lorenzo Pellegrini who scored his 12th goal of the season. The game was very tight for the rest of the half as Roma defended deep. The home team lacked that killer pass and had to rely on set pieces and long shots to have a sniff at the goal.

Brendon Rogers bought on Harvey Barnes and Kelechi Iheanacho for Jamie Vardy and Marc Albrighton in the 62nd minute to switch things a little. The substitutes had an instant impact as Harvey Barnes after an incredible dash into the box played a pass across goal which went in off Roma defender Gianluca Mancini after being put under pressure by Ademola Lookman. Iheanacho also had a couple of very good chances to score the winner but couldn't take them. Roma looked to be content with a draw as they didn't commit many players forward after conceding the equaliser.

20 year old Zewski had an excellent game at Left wing back as he assisted the first goal and was incredible in defence. Chris Smalling on his return to England had a decent game as he blocked a couple of chances and defended well. As for Leicester City James Maddison often found himself in good positions but just couldn't produce that moment of magic. The return leg in Rome is going to be a very big challenge for Leicester given that they are going into the game on level terms.
