Juventus offer a short term contract to Angel Di Maria

(Football news) Angel Di Maria's PSG contract runs out in June this year. Paris have an option to extend it for another year but the club has reportedly chosen not to do so. Juventus are close to agreeing a short term contract with the 34-year-old. According to Fabrizio Romano, the player wants to play in Europe for at least 1 season before returning to Argentina. The World Cup in Qatar is also going to be a very important factor as Di Maria will be seeking regular football.

Angel Di Maria was having a torrid time at Manchester United when PSG signed him for £44 million. He has been in the centre of the PSG revolution and has had a wonderful career at the club. The Argentine has won a total of 18 trophies with the French club and has also reached the UCL final. This season has been very tough for Di Maria with the arrival of Lionel Messi. Mauricio Pochettino has often gone with the front three of Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. Despite winning the Ligue 1, PSG have had a very disappointing season thanks to the early UCL and French cup exits. It certainly looks like the right time to let go of Di Maria and freshen things up even if Kylian Mbappe could be on his way out.

Juventus are the kings of free transfers as they always seem to sign world class out of contract players like Andrea Pirlo, Paul Pogba, Fabio Cannavaro, Kingsley Coman, Sami Khedira, Dani Alves, Emre Can, Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot. This deal could be extremely fruitful for the Bianconeri as they have a real shortage of experienced wingers. Di Maria's ability to play on either wing and as a number 10 would be a great asset to Massimiliano Allegri. Juventus shouldn't have a problem with Di Maria demanding a short term contract as the player will definitely not be in their long term plans. It is still early to predict whether the transfer will go through. PSG could easily change their mind and trigger the option to extend Di Maria's contract for another year while other clubs could also join the race.
