Jovic scores again for Serbia to put the transfer market on notice

(Football news) Luka Jovic started for Serbia yesterday in their Nations League game against Sweden. The striker scored a goal just before half time which turned out to be the match winner. Despite playing just 549 minutes for Real Madrid this season, Jovic was called up to the Serbia squad. He has proved it to be the right call after scoring twice in two games. Serbia has another match against Slovenia to come where Jovic will be looking to make it three goals in three games.

Jovic's performances with Serbia is a good way to put himself in the spotlight for clubs. He hasn't shown enough quality in the last 3 years to attract the best clubs in Europe but the ability he had when he was with Frankfurt indicates that he can be a great asset if given time. Getafe were one of the clubs that were said to be interested. The player himself is interested in going back to the Bundesliga. At this moment in time Jovic wouldn't cost more than €25m which is significantly less than what Real Madrid spent on him. The deal is likely to be initially on loan where the Merengues will have to pay a part of his high wages.

Jovic's Real Madrid tenure hasn't gone to plan since his €60m move in 2019. Karim Benzema's impeccable form and fitness has meant that the Serbian rarely gets minutes. Even when Benzema isn't available, Zinedine Zidane and Carlo Ancelotti have sometimes preferred Mariano Diaz among others over Jovic. He did go back on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt but that wasn't too successful either. Jovic simply hasn't been effective enough when given a chance in these 3 years with Los Blancos and now a transfer away is looking imminent. Jovic performing well is good news for Real Madrid as they can squeeze in some more money for him. Real Madrid have tried to sell Jovic before but haven't found the right offer. Reports suggest that the Los Blancos are looking for a back-up striker as Jovic isn't a part of the club's plans.
