Jose Mourinho returns to England as Leicester City host AS Roma

(Football news) Jose Mourinho is set to return to England to lead his AS Roma team against Leicester City in the Europa Conference League. This is the first edition of the Europa Conference League which is the third tier of UEFA's European cup competition. Roma qualified for the competition after finishing 7th in the Serie A last season while Leicester City qualified after failing to get past their Europa League group and finishing 3rd in it.

Roma defeated Trabzonspor 5-1 over two legs in the playoffs round. The Giallorossi then finished 1st in their group with 4 wins, 1 draw and an embarrassing 6-1 loss against Bodø/Glimt. Roma then defeated Vitesse 2-1 on aggregate thanks to a last minute goal by Tammy Abraham. In the quarter finals, they were once again pitted against Bodø/Glimt who won the first leg 2-1. A hat-trick from Nicolo Zaniolo helped Roma win the return leg 4-0. Now they face a tough challenge against Leicester City for a spot in the inaugural Europa Conference League final. Leicester City finished 3rd in their Europa League group after they lost 3-2 to Napoli in their last game. They then defeated Randers FC 7-2 on aggregate in the Conference League Round of 32. The Foxes narrowly defeated Rennes 3-2 on aggregate in the Round of 16 before coming from behind to beat PSV Eindhoven in the quarter finals.

Leicester City will be without Wilfried Ndidi and Ryan Bertrand while Jonny Evans and Boubakary Soumare are doubtful. For Roma there are question marks around the fitness of Bryan Cristante and Nicolo Zaniolo. Both teams don't like to defend deep hence the game is likely to be a high scoring one. Tammy Abraham will be coming back to England with a point to prove after the English media deemed him not good enough for the Premier League. Roma lost their last game 3-1 against champions Inter Milan while Leicester City came into the game on the back of two consecutive draws against Everton and Aston Villa.

After a dreadful spell with Tottenham Hotspur, Jose Mourinho has done a fine job by rejuvenating AS Roma as a club as the Italian side are currently 5th on the Serie A table. Leicester on the other hand are having a disappointing season so far. They were relegated from the Europa League and are also 10th in the Premier League making it impossible for them to be in a European competition next season unless they win the Conference League.
