Jamshedpur FC progress into third place after narrow win over NorthEast United

(Football news) Ishan Pandita’s injury time winner helped Jamshedpur FC progress into third place in the Indian Super League table with a 3-2 victory over NorthEast United FC at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim. An early strike by Deshorn Brown in the fourth minute gave NorthEast United the lead but Jordan Murray equalized in the 44th minute. Boris Singh then gave Jamshedpur FC the lead in the 56th minute but Brown scored his second in the 90 + 1. A late winner by Ishan Pandita in the 90 + 3 minute helped the Red Miners secure all three points.

The Highlanders started the game well with Deshorn Brown scoring his fifth goal of the campaign in the fourth minute after being assisted with a penetrating pass by Suhair Vadakkepeedika. Brown calmly slotted home the ball with his right foot after a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper in the bottom left corner. Jamshedpur FC could have retaliated immediately but Jordan Murray failed to hit the target from a diving header.

The Red Miners also had a penalty claim denied when Provat Lakra appeared to have fouled Greg Stewart inside the box. The Scottish footballer had another chance denied when his left footed shot was parried away by Mirshad Michu. The repeated attempts finally paid dividends with Jordan Murray leapt highest to score from Greg Stewart’s freekick in the 44th minute. The momentum was carried into the second half as Murray’s shot from the right corner of the box was saved by Michu but Jamshedpur FC managed to take the lead in the 55th minute from Boris Singh. The winger latched onto a cutback from Murray and scored into an empty net.

With five minutes added for stoppage time, Deshorn Brown scored his second goal of the match after weaving past the goalkeeper with calmness and composure to level the scoring. Just when it looked like the points would be shared between the two sides Ishan Pandita scored the winner after scoring from close range. Jamshedpur FC will next face SC East Bengal at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim on January 11th while NorthEast United will take on FC Goa at the same venue on 14th January.
