Inter Milan and Alexis Sanchez mutually agree to terminate contract

(Football news) Italian club Inter Milan and former Manchester United and Arsenal player Alexis Sanchez have mutually decided to part ways by terminating the contract. The deal was originally due to expire next summer but a severance pay has been agreed between the two parties and Sanchez, who is now a free agent has been linked with a move to French club Marseille.

After a successful loan spell at Inter, Manchester United permanently let Sanchez go to the Italian club on a free transfer in 2020. The player has been used as a substitute under Antonio Conte and Simeone Inzaghi, winning the Italian Super Cup in January by scoring a goal in the last second of extra time against Juventus. Sanchez also lifted the Serie A trophy as well as the Coppa Italia. With Romelu Lukaku’s return to Inter Milan, Sanchez became surplus to requirements and a move away was the most suitable option for all parties.

In a statement, Inter Milan said “FC Internazionale Milano announces that it has reached an agreement for the consensual termination of the contract of the Chilean striker Alexis Sanchez. The Club would like to thank Alexis for his three seasons in the Nerazzurri culminating in the conquest of three trophies and wishes him the best for the rest of his career.” According to Fabrizio Romano, Sanchez is expected to join Olympique Marseille on a free transfer, signing a contract valid until 2024.
