Giovanni Simeone to join Napoli on loan until 2023

(Football news) Giovanni Simeone will be joining Napoli after a total agreement was reached between Hellas Verona and the side from Naples. The arrival will soon be made official once all the formalities have been completed. The transfer has been given the here we go signal by Fabrizio Romano, which means the deal is all but done. The move will be an initial loan deal for a fee worth €3.5 million, while there is a buy option included worth €12 million in the player’s contract. 

The Argentinian was one of the top scorers in Serie A as he scored 17 goals and provided six assists in 36 games which was one of the best returns in the league.  As a result, his arrival will act as added competition to Victor Osimhen to retain his starting spot. Even if the Nigerian leaves in next summer’s transfer window, Giovanni Simeone will be able to provide the much needed goals. Simeone will be bolstering a depleted Napoli attack after the departure of Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne this summer. The Azzurri are also close to bringing in Giacomo Raspadori from Sassuolo this summer. They are yet to reach a breakthrough in negotiations, but have been able to agree personal terms with the 27-year-old.

The arrival of Cholito, as he is called in Argentina, Simeone's move to Napoli is also dependent on the departure of Andrea Petagna, who is reportedly close to moving to newly promoted Monza. Simeone will make the leap to a team with a desire to fight for the title after a great season in Hellas Verona where he scored 17 goals in 35 games he was just behind the Serie A top scorers behind Ciro Immobile (27 at Lazio), Dusan Vlahovic (22 between Fiorentina and Juventus) and Lautaro Martínez (21 at Inter). Napoli will be the fifth Italian club for Simeone, who has previously played for Fiorentina, Cagliari, Genoa and Hellas Verona. After his loan Diego Simone’s son has the chance to sign a five-year contract, until June 2027.
