Gabriel Jesus is on the verge of joining Arsenal for £45 million

(Football news) Arsenal have reached an agreement with Manchester City for the transfer of Gabriel Jesus with the fee expected to be £45 million. Jesus at the age of 25, was always Arsenal’s first-choice striker target for the summer transfer window and had also attracted interest from Chelsea and Tottenham. Some final elements of the deal still need to be finalised but the Brazil international is on course to become Arsenal’s fourth signing of the summer after the arrivals of Marquinhos, Matt Turner and Fabio Vieira.

Jesus moved to City in 2016 and subsequently had a year left on his contract but City decided to cash in on him since they signed Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez. He scored 58 goals and recorded 32 assists in 159 Premier League matches during his time at Etihad. Mikel Arteta has previously worked with the forward while he was the assistant to Pep Guardiola between 2016-2019. By joining Arsenal who have qualified for the Europa League, Jesus will have to forego Champions League football for at least one season. Arsenal begin their 2022-23 Premier League campaign away to Crystal Palace on August 5 and Jesus' arrival will bring a significant amount of experience to the team along with offering plenty of versatility as he is comfortable in all positions across the entire forward line.

Jesus is likely to lead the line and certainly fit his current profile as a No. 9 in the current system at Arsenal. Arteta always plays with the centre forward to be technically secure in deeper areas and hopefully try linking attacks together whilst also demanding the centre forward to show quality inside the box. These traits Jesus has frequently provided for Manchester City. Furthermore, Jesus' best attribute is his movement inside the 18-yard area. He knows when to attack the front or back post and helps his teammates assess every situation generated in the final third as it eventually ends up with a cutback or cross delivered into the danger area. Majority of the Brazilian internationals goals for the Citizens have come from him taking up very smart positions inside the box, so there is plenty of optimism amongst the fans as they can see him producing consistent output of goals if regular chances are created for him.
