Frank Lampard set for managerial return with Everton

(Football news) Everton are close to appoint Frank Lampard as their new manager. Lampard is set to return to management 1 year after being sacked by Chelsea and has been chosen after a lengthy interview process ahead of quite a few names. After Carlo Ancelotti joined Real Madrid before the start of the season, Everton controversially appointed Liverpool legend Rafa Benitez and after a decent start the results dried up. The Merseyside club are currently 16th on the Premier League table just 4 points off the drop. The appointment of Benitez never looked like a good fit. Everton sold Lucas Digne to Aston Villa because of a fallout with Benitez days before sacking the Spaniard which just shows how incompetent the Everton board is.

One of the main candidates for the job was Wayne Rooney who rejected the opportunity to stay with Derby County. Roberto Martinez was another candidate linked with the club. Lampard in every sense is the right man for the job as someone who has proper Premier League experience. He should manage to avoid the drop this season and work from there. Lampard has already started his work as reports suggest that he is pushing the club to sign the Crystal Palace target Donny Van de Beek on loan.

Lampard had a successful period with Derby County before he went to Chelsea. The 43 year old had a decent period at Chelsea where he finished 4th in the league but eventually the demands of the club for silverware proved to be too much for him. His successor Thomas Tuchel led the club to a Champions League title in the very season he was sacked. The Everton job by no means would be easy but he has quality players to work with. With just 2 days left in the transfer window, Everton and Lampard could get busy as they look to avoid relegation.
