France comeback from a goal down to defeat Spain in the UEFA Nations League final

(Football news) France were crowned the 2nd UEFA Nations League champions after defeating Spain 2-1 in the final at San Siro. France's domination in International football continues as they are the current Nations League as well as World champions.

The first half was a goalless stalemate with both teams unable to create clear cut chances. France were trying to press high but Spain dealt with it very well as they kept playing it out from the back. Spain were the better team as they didn't allow France to get out of their half easily. Kylian Mbappe wasn't allowed any space to exploit. Raphael Varane had to go off injured just before half time and was replaced by Dayot Upamecano.

Both teams came out in the 2nd half with more intent and had a few chances each. What followed was an action packed period of 2 minutes or so. France's counter attack in the 64th minute led to Theo Hernandez hitting the crossbar. Spain then launched a counter of their own and broke the deadlock through Mikel Oyarzabal.

Karim Benzema then equalised in no time straight from kick off with an absolute screamer. With the game once again tied at one all, France had a long spell of possession which bore fruit after Kylian Mbappe scored in the 80th minute to give France the lead. Mbappe was in an offside position but the referee deemed the ball to have deflected via Eric Garcia hence the goal stood.

Hugo Lloris made a couple of decent saves to protect his side's lead and France were crowned the UEFA Nations League champions. Karim Benzema was named player of the match for his equalising goal and 4 key passes. After the Euro mishap France have come out stronger and this 3 at back formation looks to be the one that they need to succeed.
