Erling Haaland set to join Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund

(Football news) Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland is on the verge of joining Manchester City this summer with the English club ready to activate his €75m release clause. According to sources, Haaland has already completed his medical at the Hospital Erasme in Brussels on Monday ahead of his big money move to the club where his father Alf-Inge Håland played between 2000 and 2003.

As per Haaland’s release clause, the €75m will be paid in one sum instead of installments and Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano has already informed Dortmund boss Hans-Joachim Watzke that the clause will be activated imminently. Widely regarded as one of the best young players in the world, Haaland has scored 85 goals in 88 matches for Dortmund since joining from RB Salzburg in January 2020 and will play his last game for the club against Hertha Berlin at the Signal Iduna Park.

According to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, Manchester City’s deal for Erling Haaland will "set new levels" in the transfer market. The German boss said “I signed a new contract knowing that City would not stop developing. It's not about City to define if we can be happy or not, it's about us and what we can make of it. You have so many opportunities and so many different ways to win a football game, and we have to find just one. It's possible obviously and we can do that.

"We face City two, three – with cup competitions, the Champions League – five, six times maybe a year but not more often than all the rest. If Erling Haaland goes there, it will not weaken them, definitely not. I think there's enough spoken about this transfer. I know there is a lot of talk out there about money, but this transfer will set new levels, let me say it like this." The 75m euro fee – which equates to £62m is considered to be below market value for the 21 year old striker and will fill a much needed gap in City’s attack since the departure of Sergio Aguero.
