England take on Germany in a crucial UEFA Nations League tie

(Football news) Germany and England will both be out to secure their first UEFA Nations League as both suffered disappointing starts to the campaign, both would eye a victory when they renew their historical rivalry in Munich on Tuesday night. Hansi Flick's side started the proceedings in League A Group 3 with a 1-1 draw against Italy, while the Three Lions suffered an embarrassing 1-0 loss to Hungary.

In the first match they were unlucky to go behind after some strong play from debutant Wilfried Gnonto down the right-hand side allowed Lorenzo Pellegrini to convert from close range with 70 minutes gone, but Joshua Kimmich quickly scored for a wasteful Germany who had plenty of chances to win the match but ultimately they shared the points. In doing so, Germany maintained their unbeaten run in all tournaments to 10 games since their Euro 2020 elimination at the hands of England in the round of 16, and they find themselves second in the rankings of League A Group 3 as they aim to progress to the finals for the first time in this tournament.

Die Mannschaft have tried and failed on two previous occasions to progress to knockout stages of the Nations League as they continue to ramp up their preparations for the 2022 World Cup, as they look to improve upon their group-stage calamity in 2018. A tally of two wins from their 11 Nations League matches is not upto the mark for top side like Germany, but they are still unbeaten at home in this tournament.

England had not failed to score in 14 matches before their embarrassing 1-0 loss to Marco Rossi's Hungary at the Puskas Arena, but Southgate's side have subsequently gone three games without a goal away from home in the Nations League as England will travel to Munich to face Germany at the Allianz Arena. Last time they faced each other, the Wembley Stadium was bouncing when England dumped Germany out of the Euros with a 2-0 win in the last-16 stage 12 months ago. The last time the Three Lions triumphed on Mannschaft turf was in a friendly in 2016, when Eric Dier scored a 91st-minute winner last time
