Destiny Udogie joins Tottenham from Udinese for a fee of £15m

(Football news) Spurs have agreed to sign Udinese left-back Destiny Udogie and the Italy U21 international who will be loaned back to Serie A club this season before joining Tottenham in summer of 2023. Tottenham have agreed for an initial fee of £15m and there are also some performance-related bonuses in his contract.

The Italy U21 international made 35 Serie A appearances, scoring five goals, while on loan at Udinese from Hellas Verona last season. Udinese were obliged to make Udogie's move permanent after the completion of his loan this summer and he joined the club on July 15. The 19-year-old Italian full back shot to the limelight last season after an incredibly impressive debut campaign in Udinese colours. His work soon caught the attention of Antonio Conte, who had been paying particular attention to Italy following the appointment of Fabio Paratici. The 19-year-old is set to become Tottenham's seventh summer signing after the signings of Perisic, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Djed Spence, Clement Lenglet and Fraser Forster.

The two clubs were locked in intense talks on Monday and reached an agreement late at night. Udogie will be loaned back to Udinese for the 2022-23 season and join up with Antonio Conte and his team for pre-season next summer. Udogie has been the prime target for Spurs’ Sporting Director Fabio Paratici and manager Antonio Conte. Juventus and Inter were also interested in the 19-year-old but were not prepared to invest a lot of money for that position. Brighton had also been in touch with Udinese regarding the player but Paratici has a very good relationship with all the Serie A clubs and he always looked destined to join Spurs once talks got to an advanced stage. Tottenham started off their Premier League campaign with a 4-1 win against Southampton on Saturday and face a difficult trip to Chelsea this Sunday.
