Can Martial’s loan move to Sevilla spice up the La Liga title race?

(Football news) Sevilla have completed the signing of Anthony Martial on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season. Martial has been out of favour at Manchester United ever since the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo. The deal works out perfectly for Manchester United as the player will get game time which will increase his transfer value and Sevilla will pay his wages. There is no buy option as of now.

Sevilla are currently 2nd in the La Liga table, 4 points behind Real Madrid. They also have the Europa League knockouts coming up. In a press conference, the Frenchman said that he came to the club because of Julen Lopetegui. If the Spanish manager gets the best out of Martial, he could be a very important player for them as the 26 year old will bring mobility to the Sevilla attack. Lopetegui is likely to play him as a number 9 even though he can operate on the left.

Martial has only 11 appearances for Manchester United this season and has scored just 1 goal. At the age of 26 he has a lot of years left and could still have a future at Manchester United. His success at Sevilla would depend a lot on how Lopetegui uses him and if he is motivated enough. The loan move may just be something that gets his career back on track. If not at United, Martial could certainly be successful elsewhere.

If Martial has a good period in Spain then Sevilla are in business. They still could pull off an upset and beat Real Madrid to the La Liga title. With players like Erik Lamela, Suso, Alejandro Gomez and Lucas Ocampos to support the Frenchman, Sevilla have a lethal attack. Their next game is away at Osasuna where Martial could make his debut. Martial's big test will come in the Europa League Round of 32 against Dynamo Zagreb.
