Bundesliga: Dortmund hit 6 past Gladbach and Bayern get back to winning ways

(Football news) Dortmund bounced back in emphatic fashion as they beat Borussia Monchengladbach 6-0. Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus played a role in five out of the six goals as his side hammered Borussia Monchengladbach to be within 6 points of the league leaders Bayern Munich. Marco Reus opened the scoring in the 26th minute by pouncing on the rebound after Yann Sommer could only parry a shot from Donyell Malen. Reus then returned the favour six minutes later by playing a beautiful one-two with Malen who then struck a powerful shot out of Sommer’s reach to double their advantage.

Dortmund then gave the final blow as they put the result beyond doubt when Reus beautifully teed up Marius Wolf to score in the 70th minute. The former Gladbach player then just started to toy with the Monchengladbach defenders as he added his third assist of the game four minutes later when Youssoufa Moukoko netted Dortmund's fourth. Reus then scored his second goal of the night after a long punt from defender Mats Hummels was brilliantly controlled and finished calmly, before Can completed the rout over Gladbach from the spot after Wolf was fouled in the box.

Marco Rose after the match said, "I'm satisfied with the game, the result and the performance over long stretches. It was the right reaction (to Rangers defeat). We have an important Bundesliga game won, now it's about showing we can follow it up.In a large group, it's always about finding solutions and working in a solution-oriented manner. At the end of the day, we need a common consensus for that, because sometimes you have to tell yourself the truth. It's about investing everything that is necessary for the club, the fans, the success of Borussia Dortmund week after week and during the week to achieve goals."

Bayern Munich went back to winning ways as they bottom side Fruth as Robert Lewandowski scored twice, Bayern Munich overcame the shock of falling behind to Greuther Fuerth but ultimately went on to win 4-1 to stay at the top of the Bundesliga standings. In the first half, a deflected free-kick from Branimir Hrgota three minutes before half-time gave Fuerth a surprising lead at the Allianz Arena and silenced the crowd as well. But it took Bayern less than 30 seconds of the second half to hit back and level the score as Lewandowski netted from close range after the ball had deflected off Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and into his path, and he did what he does best by finishing it coolly.

The defending champions went on to dominate the game after they took the lead through an own goal from Sebastian Griesbeck just after the hour mark. Before Lewandowski headed in Bayern's third in the 82nd minute and the Polish striker's 28th goal in the league this season in 23 appearances. Choupo-Moting then put the final nail in the coffin when he added a final goal, tapping in a low cross from Serge Gnabry. .

Julian Nagelsmann afterwards said, “In the first half we played 4-2-3-1 so that the boys could get a good rhythm, in a system that they were used to in the last two or three years. We didn’t bring the power and the dynamism into the game. Then in the second half we changed and they were very, very good for the first 20 minutes. That’s when we can close the bag earlier. In the end, we deserved to win by that amount”
