Bundesliga: Bayern take on Arminia while Dortmund face Wolfsburg

(Football news) Bayern will hope to bounce back after their disappointing exit from the Champions League as they take on Arminia in a clash which could see them extend their lead at the top of the Bundesliga standings. The side Bavaria are closing in on a 10th successive Bundesliga title, whilst the hosts are in huge danger of relegation following a dreadful run of form. Since the impressive 4-1 victory against Freiburg, Julian Nagelsmann's side have looked lacklustre in their performance and a  significant dip in form compared to their usual exceptional standards this season.

The 1-0 defeat against Villarreal in the first leg of their quarter-final tie was the beginning of their downfall, where despite attempting 22 shots on their opponent's goal, they still didn't manage a goal in Spain. A late goal against Augsburg ensured that Bayern's advantage at the top of the table remained at nine points, thanks to the numerous surprise slip-ups during the campaign by Borussia Dortmund's inconsistency. With BVB in action on Saturday, that gap could be cut down to six points, and could well open up an opportunity for Dortmund to get back in the title race ahead of Der Klassiker next weekend.

Arminia Bielefeld possible starting lineup:

Ortega; De Medina, Pieper, Nilsson, Laursen; Prietl, Kunze, Schopf; Wimmer, Serra, Okugawa

Bayern Munich possible starting lineup:

Neuer; Pavard, Upamecano, Hernandez, Davies; Kimmich, Goretzka; Sane, Muller, Gnabry; Lewandowski

Dortmund are having a topsy turvy season and the title looks like a far reach for them at this point but they secure Champions League football with a win over struggling Wolfsburg. Dortmund were briefly three points away from Bayern at some point but they have a chance to go within six points of Bayern Munich at the top of the table ahead of their game against Arminia. The Bavarians looked to be heading towards a frustrating goalless draw as it gave Dortmund a glimmer of hope in the title race.

However, Robert Lewandowski netted from the penalty spot inside the final 10 minutes to spare Bayern's misery and to leave Dortmund nine points behind heading into matchday 30 this weekend. With the leaders not due to play until Sunday, Dortmund once again have the chance to close the gap temporarily ahead of the all important derby next weekend which could see their side right behind Bayern and back again in title contention

Borussia Dortmund possible starting lineup:

Wolfsburg possible starting lineup:

Casteels; Lacroix, Bornauw, Brooks; Baku, Schlager, Arnold, Gerhardt; Wind, Kruse; L Nmecha
