Brazil smash Bolivia while Uruguay overcome Chile in WC qualifiers

(Football news) Having confirmed their place in the 2022 World Cup a long time ago, Brazil emphatically defeated Bolivia 4-0 to keep their unbeaten run intact. Despite putting up a good fight, Bolivia simply failed to capitalise on their opportunities while their opponents were clinical in front of goal.

Richarlison scored a brace while Bruno Guimaraes scored his first international goal, setting a new points mark (45) for Brazil in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying. Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli was a standout performer and almost scored an amazing goal for his country. Brazil head into the 2022 World Cup as one of the favourites for the title and will hope to maintain their momentum in the prestigious tournament.

Meanwhile, Luis Suarez moved ahead of Lionel Messi as the top scorer in the South American World Cup qualifiers after scoring his 29th goal in a 2-0 win over Chile. The 35 year old has scored two more goals than Messi (29 in 62 games) and his latest goal was a magnificent bicycle kick from four metres out with 11 minutes remaining.

The second goal was scored by Federico Valverde in the final moments of the match, proving that manager Diego Alonso has done a fantastic job since taking over from Oscar Tabarez. The team were suffering from four successive defeats since he took over and their qualification looked under serious threat but the team has had a brilliant change in fortunes and have won four games on the trot since then. The team finished third in qualification behind Brazil and Argentina while Ecuador is in fourth place.
