Borussia Dortmund to take on Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League

(Football news) Danish side Copenhagen have travelled to Germany to face Borussia Dortmund in their opening Champions League match on Tuesday. Dortmund finished second in the Bundesliga to qualify for the tournament while Copenhagen defeated Trabzonspor in the playoffs to secure a berth.

The German club had a chaotic transfer window, losing Erling Haaland to Manchester City while his replacement Sebastien Haller was diagnosed with a testicular tumour. However, the club are currently one point ahead of rivals Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga table with FC Freiburg leading the chart on goal difference.

Having finished third in the Group Stage of the Champions League last year, Dortmund will be looking to improve on that this time around and qualify for the knockout stage. The German club had a number of injuries with Jamie Bynoe-Gittens being the newest player to be included in the treatment room alongside Mahmoud Dahoud and Mateu Morey.

As for Copenhagen, 16-year-old Roony Bardghji and Kamil Grabara are expected to not be selected for the fixture  but Nicolai Boilesen is available for selection. With speculation of a possible transfer, striker Khouma Babacar won’t feature in the match and it will be Andreas Cornelius’ responsibility to manage the attack. Dortmund are expected to secure a comfortable victory against the Danish side to secure the three points in the Champions League.
