Bayern Munich host Villarreal with a 1 goal deficit to overcome

(Football news) Villarreal defeated Bayern Munich 1-0 in the first leg of the UCL quarter finals to continue their incredible run after eliminating Juventus in the last round. Now they travel to the Allianz Arena with a 1 goal advantage as they attempt to reach the UCL semi-finals for only the 2nd time. Bayern Munich will have other plans as they aim to reach the semi finals after narrowly missing out last season.

Bayern Munich needed an 82nd minute penalty from Robert Lewandowski to win 1-0 at home against Augsburg. Julian Nagelsman's team will have to play a lot better than they have been to knock out Villarreal. Niklas Sule is doubtful due to injury while Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Bouna Sarr and Corentin Tolisso still remain on the sidelines. Robert Lewandowski without question will be the key man once again. Joshua Kimmich will have to do a lot of work in midfield both while attacking and while defending. Nagelsman has to make a decision on which two out of Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry will start and on which wing.

Villarreal drew 1-1 against Athletic Club at home on Saturday. Unai Emery did bench most of his good players to make sure that they are fresh for the crucial UCL clash. After winning the Europa League last season, reaching the Champions League semi finals will be a massive achievement for the club. Alberto Moreno is the only player who will miss the match. The big question mark is whether Villarreal will park the bus or will they still show attacking intentions. Dani Parejo will be the key man in midfield. The defensive trio of Raul Albiol, Pau Torres and Geronimo Rulli will have a big task of stopping Bayern Munich.
