Bayern are close to singing Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig

(Football news) According to multiple reports, Bayern Munich is closing in on the transfer of 25-year-old RB Leipzig midfielder and Austrian international Konrad Laimer. With all the focus on Robert Lewandowski wanting to leave the club this should be some welcome news for Bayern Munich fans as they attempt to restructure the team after an inconsistent first year under Julian Nagelsmann. The transfer fee that Bayern are ready to pay is in the region of €20 million. As of now there are no reports of the salary or contract length.

Laimer will be fitting into the scheme of things in what would appear to be a crowded Bayern Munich midfield with the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Marcel Sabitzer, and the expected arrival of Ryan Gravenberch among others. After the arrivals of Mazraoui and Gravenberch, Bayern will undoubtedly have more signings in the coming days and weeks as the squad will begin to take shape for next season. The Austrian international has entered his final year of his contract, but Leipzig is looking for a larger fee, and they would consider moving him somewhere away from Germany.

Laimer can provide good cover for Joshua Kimmich or as a matter of fact play alongside him in a double pivot in the midfield. The German midfielder’s workload also needs to be taken under consideration as he needs to be kept fresh for an entire season, and also there needs to be healthy competition in the squad. Laimer is often called the Austrian Kante for being a pressing machine that can help Julian Nagelsman’s counter-pressing style next season, an area that he has identified to make the team more solid next campaign. The arrival of the Austrian midfielder is even more important considering Corentin Tolisso bid goodbye to Bayern after spending five in the club as he his free to leave the club as a free agent.

Along with Tolisso, Marc Roca is also expected to leave Bayern in the summer. The Spanish midfielder has been linked with a surprise move to Barcelona while Eintracht Frankfurt seems like a more viable option for the Spanish midfielder. The transfer fee received for Roca will mostly be used to get Laimer from Leipzig who are not budging away from the set price tag on him. Marcel Sabitzer is expected to stay in Bavaria next season after an underwhelming first season with the German champion as he has been linked with other top European clubs. The Austrian midfielder had a tough debut season, but he is determined to have a good second campaign. With the imminent arrival of Laimer and Gravenberch, Nagelsmann will have a plethora of good midfield players in the squad but along with that the German coach needs to find a way to give adequate playing time to everyone and get the best out of everyone.
