Bayern and Dortmund both win but surprise package Wolfsburg lead the Bundesliga

(Football news) This week the Bundesliga provided a lot of drama as Dortmund waited till the last seconds to clinch victory in front of the yellow wall. Robert Lewandowski was back to his best as he bagged a hat-trick against Hertha Berlin but this year's dark horses Wolfsburg are two points ahead of their closest rivals heading into the international break.

Former champions were back to their relentless best as they put 5 past the hapless Hertha Berlin. Julian Nagelsmann's side opened the scoring in the fifth minute itself by Thomas Muller but it turned out to be the Robert Lewandowski show as he bagged his 15th Bundesliga hat-trick. Bayern are going to buy Marcel Sabitzer from RB Leipzig in a move which further makes them stronger contenders for the Bundesliga title. It took some time for Bayern to acclimatise under Nagelsmann but the last two matches they have scored 17 goals which gives an indication on how well they have settled under him.

Dortmund won 3-2 against Hoffenheim as it was a closely fought game between two teams that were determined to win. All the drama took place in the second half as the American sensation Gio Reyna opened the scoring for Die Schwarzgelben( black and yellow) but were quickly pegged back by Baumagarter’s goal in the 61st minute. Dortmund were quick to respond through Jude Bellingham as he scored a wonderful goal with his left foot, it looked like Dortmund were heading for the victory but Munas Dabbur had different ideas as he scored in the 90th minute. Marco Rose’s side needed this victory to keep pace with the top and in the dying minutes their talisman Erling Haaland scored a crucial goal to take them level on points with Bayern.

The match of the week was played between RB Leipzig and Vfl Wolfsburg where Wolfsburg came out victorious in a narrow 1-0 win. Both teams were cancelling each other out in the first half as RB Leipzig didn't register a single shot on goal but the story of the second half was completely different as there was end-to-end football being played. The deadlock was finally broken when Peter Gulsaci parried the ball away to Jerome Roussillon who coolly slotted the ball into an empty net. RB Leipzig should have equalised as Willy Orban couldn’t tap the ball into the empty net after Emil Forsberg did brilliantly, finding him after taking a low corner. This result puts Wolfsburg top of the table as they are the only side to win all three matches

The other notable results were:

Augsburg 1(Florian Niederlechner) – 4 Bayern Leverkusen (Iago(og), Florian Niederlechner(og), Patrick Schick, Florian Wirtz)

Union Berlin 2( Niko GieBelmann, Taiwo Awoniyi) – 1 Borussia Monchengladbach ( Jonas Hoffman)
