Barcelona close in on Adama Traore loan deal to cover for the injured Ansu Fati

(Football news) Barcelona have agreed a deal with Wolves for Adama Traore. According to reports, the Spaniard will join Barcelona on loan till the end of the season. The Blaugrana will have the option to make the deal permanent for €30M and they have also agreed a pre contract for 5 years if they do decide to make the deal permanent.

Traore has started 10 out of 20 games this season. He hasn't always been first choice for Bruno Lage. Traore was linked with Spurs for a long time but now he is said to be going to Catalunya. Barcelona's interest in Traore was ignited after Ansu Fati injured himself again in their Copa del Rey clash against Athletic Club. Fati may not play again this season which makes Traore his direct replacement. If the winger does perform well he could earn a permanent move to the club.

Traore is a product of Barcelona's academy 'La Masia'. He made only 1 senior appearance for the club before leaving for Middlesbrough. Traore burst onto the scene due to his raw pace and physicality. He is widely regarded as the fastest football player in the world. The one criticism he often gets is that he lacks the end product. He has scored only 8 goals in 123 appearances for Wolves which backs the criticism. Traore is definitely not what Barcelona need for the long term but he is a quick fix to the injury problem and could eventually turn out to be an important player.

Barcelona do lack proper right wingers as Ferran Torres is the only forward who prefers to play on the right. Ousmane Dembele has been exiled and is unlikely to play for the Blaugrana again. What Traore brings to the table is pace which Barcelona lack in their attack. Xavi would like to use him in counter attacks to make use of his lightning quick speed. Barcelona are currently 1 point behind Atletico who are 4th. Their next game is against Atletico Madrid itself. Whether Traore is registered in time for that and whether Xavi plays him remains to be seen.
