Atletico Madrid hold out tame Manchester United to make it to the Quarter finals

(Football news) Atletico Madrid defeated Manchester United 1-0 in the 2nd leg to get a 2-1 aggregate victory and reach the Quarter finals. It was a classic Atletico Madrid performance as Diego Simeone's men shut the shop after Renan Lodi scored in the 41st minute. Manchester United never looked like scoring as the entire Atleti team worked their hearts out.

Atletico Madrid finally got the better of Cristiano Ronaldo in the UCL after the Portuguese had a tough night where he barely got any chances. Ralf Rangnick made the bold call of benching Paul Pogba in the game and instead opting to go for Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay and Fred in midfield. Atletico Madrid displayed what was a classic 'Park the bus' performance which is what one would've expected from them.

Some of the decisions made by the Referee attracted a lot of questions. The major one was when he didn't stop the play for a foul on Anthony Elanga right before United conceded. The official handed out only 2 yellow cards to Atletico Madrid despite so many needless fouls. There were a lot of decisions that went Atletico Madrid's way when they shouldn't have. The Spanish champions did really well in disrupting the game in the 2nd half and not allowing Manchester United to settle.

Benfica won 1-0 away at Ajax to make it to the UCL quarter finals after the first leg ended 2-2. The game was in the balance before Darwin Nunez scored in the 77th minute to break the deadlock. The game ended Sebastian Haller's incredible goalscoring run in the UCL this season. It will be for the first time since the 2015/16 season that Benfica will play in the UCL quarter finals.
