Aston Villa sign Sevilla defender Diego Carlos  for a reported €26 million

(Football news) Aston Villa wasted no time and sealed the signing of Diego Carlos in double quick time. The club will reportedly pay Sevilla €26 million for the Brazilian. The news comes 3 days after Villa announced the signing of Boubacar Kamara for free. Villa are already making moves which are very promising ahead of Steven Gerrard's first full season incharge. Carlos has been linked to a move away from Sevilla since January. Newcastle were very keen to sign him in the winter transfer window but couldn't agree a deal with Sevilla.

Diego Carlos is an incredible signing for Villa and will bring his experience of playing at the European level with Sevilla.Carlos has been excellent for Sevilla ever since he joined the Spanish side from Nantes. He has been a rock at the back along with the Chelsea bound Jules Kounde. The 28-year-old was an integral part of the team that won the Europa League in 2020. He is a leader in the Sevilla squad and has been key for Sevilla's recent success. He has given up Champions League football to sign for Aston Villa, which shows that he really believes in the project. Gerrard will have been a big influence in convincing the defender to make the switch.

The 29-year-old is a complete defender in every sense. Carlos' physicality is his biggest attribute but at the same time he is incredibly quick and agile. The Brazilian is a classic front foot defender who anticipates the movement of the ball and the opponent as well as anyone else. His passing and heading isn't the best but can certainly be improved in England. Villa are also interested in the services of James Tarkowski who will be available for free. After Burnley's relegation, Tarkowski's departure is imminent as he is way too good to play in the Championship. The club will have to make room by selling one or even two of Tyrone Mings, Kortney Hause, Calum Chambers and Ezri Konsa.
