AS Roma reach the Conference League final with win over Leicester

(Football news) Jose Mourinho's AS Roma booked their place in the Europa Conference League final by eliminating Brendon Rodgers' Leicester City. The final aggregate score was 2-1 to AS Roma as they will face Feyenoord in the final. Jose Mourinho had now become the first manager to reach a European final with 4 different clubs i.e Champions League final with Porto and Inter Milan, Europa League final with Manchester United and now the Conference League final with AS Roma.

The first leg at the King Power Stadium ended 1-1 with a goal from Lorenzo Pellegrini and an own goal from Gianluca Mancini. With the tie in balance, the Stadio Olympico was rocking as the home side got an incredible welcome into the stadium. It took Tammy Abraham just 11 minutes to open the scoring and put Roma in front on the night and on aggregate. The English striker jumped highest to hit a bullet header from Pellegrini's corner. Even though the header was dead centre of the goal, the power on the shot left Kasper Schmeichel with absolutely no chance.

After taking the lead Roma went into full Moutinho mode. Leicester City despite having 63% possession could only manage 2 shots on target, both of which were straight at Rui Patricio. Roma had a couple of chances from corners but couldn't hit the target. Brendon Rodgers will be extremely disappointed with his team's performance. It is not just the loss but how they lost which was very frustrating. The away side never looked like scoring and just didn't test Roma enough. Jose Mourinho had tears in his eyes when the final whistle was blown. The Portuguese manager has never lost a European final in his career and he will be keen on keeping his record intact.
