Arsenal managers Mikel Arteta and Jonas Eidevall sign new contracts

(Football news) Arsenal managers Mikel Arteta and Jonas Eidevall have signed new contracts with the club. Arteta has agreed to a contract extension until 2025 while women’s team manager Eidevall has committed to the club until the end of the 2023/24 campaign. As things stand, the Arsenal men’s team are in pole position to secure Champions League qualification for the first time since 2017 while the women’s team could win the Women’s Super League.

Upon signing his new deal, Mikel Arteta said “We want to take the club to the next level and to compete really with the top teams. In order to do that, we have to be playing in the Champions League. We have to be able to evolve the team, improve our players, improve all departments, generate even more connection with our fans, improve the atmosphere at the Emirates, be able to recruit top, top talent and the best people for this club to drive this project to that level.”

Arteta guided Arsenal to a 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup final in 2020 and went on to win the Community Shield over Liverpool on penalties. The Spaniard reiterated his vision for the club by saying “I'm excited, grateful and really, really happy today. When I spoke to Josh he could see the club at the same point and he wanted to take the club the way I wanted to do it. So everything that he's said, and that Stan has said when I've been together with both of them, they've always delivered.”

As for Jonas Eidevall, his team are currently 2nd in the Women’s Super League, just one point behind Chelsea. The Swedish football coach joined from Rosengard last summer and will now stay on for another two years. Upon signing the contract extension, Eidevall said “It's great, it allows me to continue to work for a club that I love so much and be around people that I really, really like, and to be able to achieve things together, so I'm really looking forward to that."
