Andre Onana joins Inter on free transfer in the summer

(Football news) Andre Onana currently playing for Ajax will be signing for Inter in the summer for a free transfer as his contract will expire. Barcelona were interested in signing him, but he ultimately chose Inter. Onana came through the Barcelona academy before moving to the Netherlands in 2015. He has since been at Ajax and been their number 1 keeper.

The road for Onana hasn’t been easy as he was not allowed to play until very recently due to a doping issue. He has been at Ajax since 2015 and has helped them win two Eredivisie titles and two Dutch Cups. Andre Onana was an integral part in the Ajax squad that progressed to the semifinals of the Champions League in the 18/19 season. Ultimately, they ended up losing to Tottenham Hotspur in the semi finals of the competition. The 25-year-old has made 206 appearances for Ajax and has kept 84 clean sheets. He is expected to be the heir to Samir Handanovic at Inter Milan as he is well past his prime and needs to be replaced by a younger goalkeeper. Inter Milan are getting a very good goalkeeper and maybe the perfect young replacement of Samir Handanovic

Onana when asked about his potential move said that “They talk about many things. They have placed me at Barcelona, Inter, Arsenal, Lyon, Nice, Monaco… while I was at home suspended [laughs]. I do not know. It is true that we have not reached an agreement with Ajax and I am grateful to the club for the opportunity that they gave me. Now, after almost seven years, I think it is time to take a step forward, walk away and make room for others. Ajax always gives opportunities to young players and there are many goalkeepers in the academy waiting for this opportunity. I must step away. To where, I don't know, but I need something new to measure myself against the top goalkeepers”
