FIFA Club World Cup Trophy Arrives in Almeida During Nationwide Tour

At the Palacio de Cibeles today, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, the mayor of Madrid, greeted the FIFA Club World Cup trophy. From June 15 to July 13, 32 clubs, including Real Madrid and Atletico de Madrid, will compete in this esteemed football competition in the United States. Along with Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires, Madrid is now one of three cities with several teams.

Almeida declared Madrid to be “one of the great global capitals of football” and underlined the city’s pride in the ideals it upholds in football in particular. Additionally, he said that the tournament’s new structure “will excite all fans” and thanked FIFA for letting Madrilenians enjoy the trophy, which they want to obtain definitively by the end of July.

Since January 17, the trophy has been traveling around the cities where the FIFA Club World Cup teams are playing. These teams include the nine top non-champion clubs of that era, including Bayern Munich, PSG, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, Porto, Atletico de Madrid, Benfica, and Salzburg, as well as the last four UEFA Champions League winners (Chelsea in 2021, Manchester in 2023, and Real Madrid in 2022 and 2024). The competition will include 12 European teams, one representative from the United States as the host nation, six South American teams, four from Asia, four from Africa, four from North and Central America, and one from Oceania.
