Levante’s star player, Ángel Algobia, is once again struggling with injuries, which frustrates coaches and supporters. Algobia left the pitch with discomfort that has now been determined to be a recurrence of his calf injury following an outstanding performance against Granada, in which he scored and provided an assist. His availability for the forthcoming match against Deportivo, which would be his 27th game out of a potential 66 since joining Levante from Getafe two summers ago, is in question in light of this most recent setback, which was revealed on Tuesday.
The midfielder, who was born in Madrid, has suffered an alarming 40% absence rate throughout his stay at the club because of an astounding eight muscular problems. Despite Levante’s coaching changes, this trend has continued, with managers Calleja, Felipe Miñambres, and now Julián Calero all feeling the effects of Algobia’s injury problems.
He had a rough start to the previous season, missing games in August and September before missing more in October and November. Even though they weren’t considered serious, these injuries made it difficult for him to continue performing consistently. The athlete and his fans endured a painful spring as the issue deteriorated between February and March when he missed seven games and five more in April and May.
More bad luck appears to be on the horizon for Algobia as he begins his second season with Levante. He has sustained three more muscular injuries in just over half a season, including a major setback that prevented him from playing in five games from late October to early December.
Algobia has contributed three goals and as many assists in the games he has played, demonstrating that coaches and supporters believe in his ability despite these obstacles. He has already scored twice this season, including a vital goal in the team’s most recent 2-1 victory over Granada, and contributed one assist.
Levante would greatly benefit from having Algobia available at a time when teammates like Pablo Martínez are doing poorly. Given that the team is struggling with depth in that position—as evidenced by Óscar Clemente’s recent loan move to Cartagena—his presence may encourage competitiveness among the midfielders.
After Andrés García left for Aston Villa, where he is working with Unai Emery, Levante is also considering acquiring a right-back in the winter transfer window. The club is looking for an experienced player who can also play center back as they wait for Liga to approve this move.
