England hammer India to book their place in the final at the MCG

(Cricket news) England defeated India in convincing fashion by 10 wickets. It was a night to forget for India as they crumbled under pressure in yet another ICC knockout game. England will now play Pakistan in the final at the MCG just like they did at the 1992 World Cup. Jos Buttler won the toss and elected to bowl first before informing that both Mark Wood and Dawid Malan are not fit. The pair were replaced by Phil Salt and Chris Jordan which were both like-for-like changes. Rohit Sharma said that he wanted to bat first anyway and that they have gone with the same team which meant that there was no place for Dinesh Karthik.

Batting first India lost KL Rahul early once again but Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli steadied things. It got a little slow in the middle overs for the men in blue as Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav went back to the pavilion. Kohli got his 4th 50 of the tournament as he scored 50 off 40 balls hitting 4 fours and a six. His partnership of 61 with Pandya wasn't too explosive and this time Kohli couldn't capitalize as he was dismissed by Jordan. Pandya however did let loose as he smashed 63 off 33 balls to take India to a total of 168. The all-rounder hit 4 boundaries and a maximum in his stellar knock. At one stage it looked like India would struggle to reach 150 but Pandya dismantled England's death bowling. Adil Rashid bowled an amazing spell in the middle overs as he gave away only 20 runs and got the scalp of Suryakumar Yadav. Even though Chris Jordan was expensive he picked up 3 wickets while Chris Woakes also got a wicket.

Chasing 169, it looked like England didn't even break a sweat. Openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales unleashed hell on Indian bowlers in the powerplay and then kept on going. England ended up winning by 10 wickets with 4 overs to spare. India never looked like getting a wicket as England were way too comfortable. Even though India's score was just about par, their bowling was very disappointing. The absence of a wrist spinner like Yuzvendra Chahal was clearly felt, especially considering how effective Adil Rashid was. The major difference between the two ended up being the powerplay approaches. India looked very timid in the powerplay while England made the most of those 6 overs.
