Why is Rahul Dravid the perfect candidate to replace Ravi Shastri as India’s new coach after the World Cup?

(Cricket news) According to the rumour mill Rahul Dravid agreed in principal to apply for the position of head coach to succeed Ravi Shastri after the T20 World Cup, although initially he wanted to continue with the India U19 and India A squads but after he heard BCCI’s plan he became interested, now he clearly becomes the favourite to become India’s new coach.

Rahul Dravid is often regarded as a “process person'' and his method in the India U19 team has worked wonders and in a few years has given Indian Cricket several youngsters already. A man who often used to stay calm and always used to give advice to the youngsters in the team when he was playing, has continued this trend in his coaching career also as he has brought in a certain freshness amongst the new aged youngsters that are slowly but steadily coming into the Indian setup. Such a mighty board in terms of power, money and influence are so hell bent on pursuing Dravid as their head coach, gives an indication about his impeccable credentials and also the lack of fine options in the current situation.

Crucially BCCI wants a coach that will help smoothen the transition that the team will go through once Virat Kohli will step down as T20 captain, after a long time India will see two captains for different formats. This will hamper growth and confuse the youngsters in the team especially, so that's why the BCCI want a calming influence like Dravid in the dressing room to help with the transition. Another reason the BCCI are heading towards Dravid is that he enjoys tremendous goodwill not only with the cricketers but also with the fans, this in turn will help them be controversy free with such an experienced and reputed coach as well as a former player at the helm.

Dravid will breathe a fresh new life in the squad as he has an amazing track record with youngsters in the team as he has already won the U19 World Cup in 2019 and has done wonders for players like Siraj, Pandya and Washington Sundar since he became the head of National Cricket academy. One more factor going for him is the close relationship he shares with the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, the two former captains will work closely together and hopefully win the World Cup in 2023, which looks like the next target after the World T20.
