Why did M.S Dhoni hand over CSK captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja?

(Cricket news) In a shocking turn of events, M.S Dhoni has handed over the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings to Ravindra Jadeja, just 2 days before the tournament kicks off. Jadeja will become only the 3rd player after Suresh Raina and M.S Dhoni to lead CSK. The decision is unexpected because Dhoni was retained by CSK before the mega auction and was expected to lead the side for a few more years.

Dhoni will continue to play in the side as a player. The decision may have something to do with Dhoni's personal batting form which hasn't been too great recently as it becomes difficult for a captain to drop himself if he isn't getting runs. It is very likely that he doesn't play all the games this season. Dhoni leaves behind an incredible legacy as one of the most successful if not the most successful captain in IPL history.

It will be interesting to see how Jadeja handles the responsibility of being a captain for the first time in his career. His improvement as a player has been incredible and there is every chance that it grows even more with captaincy. It is a blessing for him to have someone like M.S Dhoni in the team to guide him for some time at least. He will have a massive task ahead of him as replacing a captain like Dhoni will instantly invite pressure.

This is definitely the end of an era in the Indian Premier League. Two of India's greatest captains, Virat Kohli and M.S Dhoni will not lead their respective teams. In his 12 seasons as CSK captain, Dhoni has guided the team to 9 finals out of which he has won 4 trophies. His legacy as a skipper will live on forever while we can enjoy his last few days as a player a little longer.
