WBBL: Four Indians star in entertaining Renegades Vs Thunder game; Richa’s late fireworks ensure Hurricanes victory over Stars

(Cricket news) Melbourne Renegades defeated Sydney Thunder by 9 runs in the WBBL. The game featured four Indian internationals who all had good individual performances. Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur for the Renegades; Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma for the Thunders. 

Renegades captain Sophie Molineux elected to bat first. Jemimah Rodrigues opened the batting and played the entire 20 overs. The pocket hitter scored 75* from 56 deliveries hitting 9 boundaries in the process. Rodrigues anchored the innings as Renegades finished at 142/5. Sydney Thunder's Deepti Sharma picked up the important wicket of Jess Duffin. Smriti Mandhana inflicted the run out of Courtney Webb on the field.

Chasing 143 runs, Smriti Mandhana finally joined the party as she hit some form with the willow. The left hander hit 4 boundaries and a six in her innings of 64 from 44 balls. She was taking the game away from the Renegades when her Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur knocked her over to get a crucial breakthrough for her side. Kaur later also played a part in Anika Learoyd's run-out. Deepti Sharma played a gutsy knock of 23 off 10 balls towards the end. Melbourne Renegades got their 3rd win of the WBBL while Sydney Thunder are still winless in the campaign.

In the match between Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars, the Hurricanes had to chase 145 in the second innings. Kim Garth continued her great form for Melbourne as she scored an unbeaten 44. The Hurricanes' run chase was ignited by Mignon du Preez who scored 62 off 45 balls. 18-year-old Indian sensation Richa Ghosh walked in to bat at no. 5 and shortly after Du Preez was dismissed. Richa Ghosh took the responsibility and finished the game scoring an unbeaten 24 off just 16 balls. She made sure her side got the win with 4 balls to spare.
