Venkatesh Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav lead India to 17-run win over West Indies

(Cricket news) India defeated West Indies by 17 runs to complete a tour whitewash as the hosts won all the games. Both the sides made 4 changes to their side as Kieron Pollard won the toss and elected to bowl first. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Avesh Khan finally got their opportunity after a long time on the bench.

Gaikwad couldn't make the most out of the opportunity as he fell to Jason Holder after scoring just 4 off 8 balls. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer added 53 crucial runs after 8 overs but were both dismissed in quick succession shortly after. Rohit Sharma struggled as he could only manage 7 runs off 15 deliveries before being clean bowled by Dominic Drakes. Suryakumar Yadav and Venkatesh Iyer just like they did in the first match lit up the fireworks as the pair added 91 runs in just 6 overs. Iyer scored an unbeaten 25 off 16 balls, hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes while Suryakumar Yadav hit 1 boundary and 7 sixes for his 31 ball 65. India set a healthy target of 185 for the Windies.

The visitors lost early wickets as Deepak Chahar got rid of both the openers Kyle Meyers and Shai Hope cheaply. Chahar then pulled a muscle during his run-up and didn't return to the field as Venkatesh Iyer had to take his position. Iyer grabbed the opportunity and picked up two very crucial wickets to go with his batting cameo. Harshal Patel picked up 3 wickets while Shardul Thakur bowled brilliantly at the death and also picked up 2 wickets. In the end the Windies fell 17 runs short as Nicholas Pooran was the only batter who crossed the 50 run mark. Pooran on a personal level had a fantastic series scoring a half century in all 3 games.

India now prepares for the 3 T20Is against Sri Lanka in a couple of days where some new guys could get an opportunity in the absence of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant while Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja return to the side. Bumrah is also named the vice captain for both the T20Is and Test squad in the absence of KL Rahul.
