The Lions name squad for tour of Australia

(Cricket news) The England and Wales Cricket Board have announced a 14-strong squad for the Lions tour to Australia. The selection is subject to passing minimum fitness standards which will be administered over the coming weeks.

Tom Abell (Somerset), Josh Bohannon (Lancashire), James Bracey (Gloucestershire), Brydon Carse (Durham), Mason Crane (Hampshire), Matthew Fisher (Yorkshire), Ben Foakes (Surrey), Alex Lees (Durham), Saqib Mahmood (Lancashire), Liam Norwell (Warwickshire), Matt Parkinson (Lancashire), Dom Sibley (Warwickshire), Jamie Smith (Surrey), Rob Yates (Warwickshire).

Four players including James Bracey, Mason Crane, Ben Foakes and Dom Sibley are capped at the Test level while Lancashire batter Josh Bohannon, Surrey wicketkeeper Jamie Smith and Warwickshire pair Liam Norwell and Rob Yates are new to the set up. Alex Lees will return to the squad after a six year gap with the 28 year old being in excellent form at the LV = Insurance County Championship.

The Lions will camp alongside the England Ashes squad and play two intra-squad matches (1 x 3-day and 1 x 4-day matches) in Queensland. They will also take on Australia in a four day match with dates and venue yet to be confirmed. Coaching appointments will be revealed in due course and the party will return on 16th December.
